Family Medicine Residency
What are you looking for in potential residents?
The FM residency is interested in well-rounded candidates that demonstrate a balance of medical knowledge, willingness to learn, professionalism, leadership experience, and interpersonal skills.
How many PGY-1 positions do you have?
We have 6 PGY-1 positions in every class.
Do residents participate in research?
Scholarly activity is an integral part of the program, and residents complete at least one scholarly project during their Family Medicine residency. Residents have access to a wide variety of research, quality improvement projects, and committees at HGMC and our affiliated sites.
Where do residents typically live?
Most of the residents live locally in Hemet or Menifee area, although some residents choose to live in Moreno Valley Murrieta, and Temecula. There are plenty of restaurants, grocery shops and recreational activities close by. Overall affordable housing is available within close proximity to the hospital as there are numerous apartment complexes around.
What is the call schedule like?
Our program uses a “night float” system to cover inpatient day teams. We only have 12-hour calls and do not follow a 24-hour call schedule. Night float usually consists of IM, FM and TY residents that constitutively work together and manage admissions and the floors overnight. Night float starts at 6pm and ends 6am the following day. The residents are provided 35-dollar Grub Hub meal cards for the week.
How long does interview season run?
Interviews are generally sent out during the month of November and December. Pre-match offers are usually sent out the month of January. Our current interview process is entirely virtual.
