Internal Medicine Residency
Welcome to the KPC Hemet Internal Medicine Residency Program at Hemet Global Medical Center (HGMC)! We are excited that you have chosen to learn about our program.
Our Program
The mission of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at HGMC is to train and educate residents to be competent and compassionate practitioners in the core knowledge and skills of Internal Medicine. Our hope is to improve the health of the people in California and, especially, to serve the Inland Empire by training a diverse workforce of physicians that will improve the health of the medically under-served in the region. We support our residents in furthering their careers, whether it be in primary care or in seeking fellowship opportunities for further sub-specialization. We train our residents to graduate from our program ready for independent practice.
Didactics
Residents attend daily noon lectures and conferences. During this time, residents are excused from clinical duties to attend lectures. Once a month, multidisciplinary grand rounds are held and provide a forum for the presentation and active discussion of relevant case material. Attendees incorporate learned content into their practice and improve evidence-based care. Additionally, residents attend Morbidity and Mortality conferences, where a safe venue for identifying areas of improvement, promoting professionalism, and improving patient care is provided. The conference also serves as an avenue for teaching quality improvement curriculum.
Scholarly Activity
Scholarly activity is an integral part of the program, and residents complete at least one scholarly project during their Internal Medicine residency. Residents have access to a number of projects already underway and are also encouraged to start their own research or quality improvement projects. Furthermore, all residents will have access to research mentorship from faculty advisors to help navigate the research process.
Our Hospital
Founded in 1943, Hemet Global Medical Center, is the only hospital in the Hemet-San Jacinto Valley, serving a population of approximately 160,000 people. The facility has grown to meet the health needs of this relatively rural and largely under-served population. With over 300 beds, and an incredibly busy Emergency Department, residents will find a plethora of patient care experiences embedded in a diverse training environment.
